"Early in this century [, the 20th century,], when liberal theology flooded our churches, many Christians were at a political high tide. If they had used their strength rightly at that moment, they could have stopped liberal theology's conquest of the large denominations and the beginning slide toward a humanist consensus. Instead many Christian threw their energies into the 18th Amendment to the Constitution, which prohibited the manufacture and sale of alcoholic beverages. This was considered a total victory until the 21st Amendment revoked it all. I am making only one point here: Many Christians had the wrong priority."
