I HAVE NOTHING TO SAY:
Dr. Schaeffer mentions the work of John Cage in several of his works, highlighting that Cage's approach to "modern" musical composition represents a lapse in music toward nihilism and non-reason. Cage attempts to communicate the fragmentation in human communication through disorder, yet all the while using the order of timekeeping. Thus he contradicts himself in that he tries to use order to say there is no order. "I have nothing to say, and I am saying it" ~ John Cage
