The third book of Schaeffer's Trilogy, He Is There And He Is Not Silent tackles the essential teaching of epistemology, by Schaeffer's definition, "How that we know and how we know we know." Schaeffer feels that the epistemology is essential to understanding his earlier work. He writes this book to solidify this concept.
Although forming the third book of the Trilogy, Schaeffer publishes this book four years after his first two books. A study guide to the Trilogy was published in 1974. However, the three books were not published together until 1990, six years after Schaeffer's death.
Schaeffer deals with the fundamental spiritual questions: What do we know? and How do we know what we know? He points to an infinite, personal God whom we can come to know intimately.
